hi i'm sure your aware of the media covering the cost of hospital parking and just wondered what views you had on the issue.I heard on one women going for treatment for cancer and she had had seventeen appointments and the hospital car park was charging £4 an hour god knows how long she was in there but it is getting rediculous why cant the just charge visitors and give those that are going for treatment a pass with there appointment x

I raised this matter with our MP, with regard to extortionate charges at our local hospital. She did reply, promising to do what she could, but as ever with these people, nothing ever came out of it. I did get a long-winded and vacuous reply from the Trust`s Chief Executive, which was another pointless missive, so I didn`t bother any more. At the same time I queried why delivery vans, workmen`s vans etc., always parked in Disabled spaces, but that was ignored too.

There really should be some system, like a pass, as you say, but I don`t see it happening to be honest.

Hi
I don't mind paying a reasonable fee but at my local hospital it's £3.20 for the first hour and then it rises sharply. It's one of the new PFI hospitals and apparently the hospital itself doesn't set the charges. As i seem to be there about twice a month it soon adds up!
However certain patients do get a free pass -my mum didn't pay when she attend daily for radiotherapy and i also think dialysis patients get free parking.
The local Trust says that they are trying to get people to use public transport but if your not well this isn't really an option.

Our hospital only charges £1 an hour but it still adds up. When I was pregnant I was under a rheumatologist, haematologist and obstertrition - they were all keeping a close eye on me for which I am grateful as I now have a healthy 2 year old son. I added up how much money I fed in to the parking meter during those 9 months and it came to over £70.

Gosh! I am amazed at the charges you 'guys' have to pay. I thought our hospital was bad enough but it is only 1.50 for all day. That is outrageous. Patients who attend regularly can't be expected to pay that sort of money to go to their appointments. That is kicking someone when they are down. You really need to be more vociferous in your complaining. I really feel for you. As Julie said a sensible fee wouldn't be too bad. Good luck with your campain.

Gosh Sheila

Down here in Southampton it is £1.90 for up to 1 hour - so if I am only in there 15 mins for blood tests it is quite expensive.

I usually go on the bus now - as I have a season ticket - works out cheaper that way !!

Well actually, it gets even better here. The Rheumatology Dept is no longer at the hospital, it moved about 15 months ago and is in a brand new building which is part of Preston North End's football ground and parking is free all day. I really do feel for all of you who are paying extortionate parking rates.

It both irritates and amuses me that as a blue badge holder, the only place I have to pay to park is at the hospital! Madness.
£2.50 for up to 2 hours here, then £2.90 for up to 3 hours, then a sharp rise. I have been known to be in both the rheumatology and orthopeadic clinics for up to 4 hours on occasion so it is a significant cost.
